.:. Expedition to conquer unclimbed Peak 41 .:.

Expedition of six Slovenian climbers (leader Matic Jošt, AO Celje-Matica; Urban Golob, AO Ljubljana matica; Boštjan Jezovšek, PK Rifnik - Šentjur; Matej Kovačič, Akademski AO - Ljubljana in Aleš Kovač, AO Kozjak - Maribor, Uroš Samec-Čečka, AO Ljubljana matica) set off to Nepal on 19th September. Their purpose is to climb on the top of the still unclimbed Peak 41.

Peak 41 (6654 m) is located between Ama Dablam and Mera Peak in Nepal. The mountain became more known two years ago, because of the discovered confusion about co-ordinates and names of Peak 41 and Mera peak.
It is located near well known trekking peak; Mera peak, which is technically unpretentious and has a lot of visitors. On the contrary, as far as we know, there have been three known expeditions to Peak41:

  • Real Mera 6654 Expedition in April 2000. This expedition was stopped by the icefall (right side).
  • Jamie McGuinness tried to approach the mountain from the west over thewest glacier in July 2000 but was stopped by snow.
  • Sami Maukonen and Jari Uusikivi from Finland in May 2001. They climbed the left icefall and reached 6100 meter level on the West Face. Ice avalanche hit them and they turned back.
There are also rumours of a Japanese expedition to the mountain in -98 (?).

In any case, Peak 41 is difficult and heavily approachable mountain with steep but beautiful faces with average inclination around 60 - 70 degrees. A little less steep are ridges, but they offer other difficulties (snowdrifts).

Expedition, which general sponsor is Agency 41, planned their return to Slovenia on 8th of November.
